Day Care

The scene is composed of three shots. The first is a long tracking shot, which follows Oscar Grant as he moves through his daughter's day care building. In the beginning of the shot, Oscar moves through the inside of the building, centered, with just the back of his head and his upper back in frame. When he reaches the outside, the camera remains relatively close to Oscar and his daughter, maintaining the medium shot. He sits at small table with his daughter, signing her out. The shot ends with Oscar running out of the left of the frame, and his daughter, T following. The next shot is a slow motion, long shot, capturing T and her father running straight on, toward the camera. An extreme long shot follows, still capturing the pair running straight on. The transition between Oscar and T running from a long shot to an extreme long shot creates a match cut. This final shot ends with Oscar driving left, out of frame. The editor paces this scene very well. Both the first and lost shot are relatively long, while the second is short. The second shot serves as a bridge linking the two longer shots together. The presence of movement is also maintained through the whole scene, with each shot being dominated by some sort of movement. Their is walking, running, and then a jump. Each of these shots are presented in a linear fashion; there is no discontinuity.
